Who are the no.1 seeds?

March 17th, 2009 - by Sports Bookie

Now that the bracket is full, this is the time where the NCAA March Madness really begins. We just saw how far some of the teams have gone to be in the bracket, but how further they can get? Which team are you willing to place your NCAA bets for?

The Pittsburgh Panthers are the team to talk about. You won’t find a tougher trio than seniors Levance Fields and Sam Young and sophomore big man DeJuan Blair in the entire country.

The Panthers held the top spot in the rankings for the first time in school history this year, on two separate occasions, and also swept UConn in the season series. Pittsburgh finished 28-4 and had one of the most impressive true road wins of any team in the country when they went to Tallahassee and knocked off Florida State. They are extremely likely to win, so keep your eye on them.

The Connecticut Huskies are another top contender. They have slowly grown into a team capable of winning the national title. With players such as A.J. Price, Jerome Dyson and Thabeet on their side, they cover every angle possible against any team. They might have lost two games against Pittsburgh, but that hasn’t stopped them from playing great basketball.

The North Carolina Tar Heels finished the season 27-3, which included an absolutely thrashing of Big Ten champion Michigan State at the site of the Final Four, Detroit’s Ford Field, the sweep of Duke and a 13-3 league mark that earned the Tar Heels the ACC regular season crown.

So, there you have some advice of which teams can cut the strings of the basket this year. Be aware of every movement and activity that occurs during the March Madness, you can come out a winner if place your NCAA bets the right way.

Redskins spending the big bucks

March 3rd, 2009 - by Sports Bookie

The Washington Redskins have made a blockbuster move; by purchasing all pro defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth, formally of the Tennessee Titans. Within the first few hours of being a free agent, six teams dropped their deals like candy, but it was the ‘Skins offer he couldn’t refuse.

The agreement reached was a seven year contract for $100 million, which includes $41 million in guarantees. Also, within the first 13 months of the contract, he will receive around $32 million. Honestly, that is just too much to let down. This is one of the richest deals in NFL history.

Apparently, out of the six teams, Haynesworth and his agent, Chad Speck, had to choose between the Redskins or the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Although, the Buccaneers have more capital, the Redskins were more aggressive in wanting to sign him, which might have been a huge factor in his decision making.

The ‘Skins not just only signed Haynesworth, they also added cornerback DeAngelo Hall, formally of the Oakland Raiders and Atlanta Falcons, back to their roster. His deal is for six years at the price of $54 million. The Redskins have a reputation of making massive money signings, especially their owner Dan Snyder. Last year they didn’t make any free agent purchases, which might have led them to not have a great NFL season.

In the end, this might actually work for them. Bettering the roster with key players is always important for any team. Even though the Redskins haven’t had a great NFL season for quite some time, this could be their chance to shine. They have won the Super Bowl before and they can do it again. Take this team into great consideration for the next time you place your bets for this coming NFL season.

Description: The Washington Redskins making huge spending on new players for their roster.

Keywords: Washington Redskins, Redskins, Albert Hayesworth, Tennessee, free agent, teams, deals, ‘Skins, offer, agreement, contract, NFL history, Chad Speck, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, DeAngelo Hall, Oakland Raiders, Atlanta Falcons, deal, owner, Dan Snyder, NFL season, Super Bowl, bets.

Viva Las Vegas – NASCAR victory for Busch

March 2nd, 2009 - by Sports Bookie

Some people talk the talk and very few walk the walk. Kyle Busch demonstrated that he can do both. In his hometown of Las Vegas, Nevada, he took the victory and won the Shelby 427, part of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

His victory went to the record books. He is the first pole-winner to reach the finish line in a Cup race at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. After having an engine change, he was forced to start at the 39th position, but that didn’t stop him from taking the victory.

This is a tremendous comeback for Busch, after his incident in the Daytona 500, where he finished 41st after being mixed up in another driver’s crash. He was dominating the race, but his momentum was taken away in a matter of seconds.

You wouldn’t think this 23-year-old would get the job done. But, after 228 laps, he showed the world his driving abilities and patience to place first.

Other racers that had some problems as well. Jeff Gordon blew one of his tires when he failed to get into the pit, but he was able to finish at sixth. Jimmie Johnson drove through his pit box and was behind a lap. At the end he finished at the 24th spot. Another one who had problems was Carl Edwards, due to his pit crew’s mistake of not placing a lug nut in its correct position. He finished 17th.

What he have a here is a demonstration of class and sportsmanship. No tonly the experienced ones can win championships. Guys like Kyle Busch show the love for the sport. This is someone you should definitely keep in mind for the next time you place your NASCAR bets. He might have lost the Daytona 500, due to a bad moment, but the next time that event comes around, don’t hesitate to place your racing bets on this guy.

Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur for Carling Cup title

February 27th, 2009 - by Sports Bookie

The Tottenham Hotspur is the team that currently holds the title for the Carling Cup championship and, on Sunday, they will have to face the Manchester United who is standing in their way of winning a second title in a row.

The 2009 Football League Cup Final will take place on March first at Wembley Stadium in London.

The Carling Cup is now in its 49th season with 92 teams coming from the Football League (England, Wales) and the Premier League (England)

The last time that the Manchester United came up with victory at the Carling Cup was in 2006 and, lately, they seem to be in a good position to relive that moment.

In contrast with the recent success of Manchester, the Spurs, whom haven’t performed very well lately, have to carry with them the mental struggle of facing one of the most powerful teams on earth in order to keep the title at home.  This could prove to haunt them on Sunday when the moment of truth arrives.

Last year, the Tottenham Hotspur beat the Chelsea in order to win the championship, but the team of the ‘blues’ at that time was not so strong. Now the story is totally different, as they are facing the Manchester United, the team that obtained the Carling Cup with a 4-0 victory over the less-notable Wigan Athletic.

Apparently, Alex Ferguson is going to allow some rookie players to compete in a finals’ game, drastically different from the Spurs who are going to play with their best men.

Honestly, I believe that the Tottenham Hotspur don’t have much of a chance of beating the Manchester United, though Ferguson’s usage of rookies is something that could favor the Spurs.

Marquette star out for rest of the NCAA season

February 26th, 2009 - by Sports Bookie

Marquette Golden Eagles senior starting point guard, Dominic James, will have to sit out for the rest of the season, due to a fractured bone in his left foot. James broke it while playing against Connecticut, the No. 2 team of the league, in which they lost 93-82.

The NCAA injury announcement was made by the team’s coach, Buzz Williams, and the school after the game had finished. They mentioned that James broke the fifth metatarsal in his left foot after only playing four minutes of the first half. Also, Williams said that James will have to stay in rehabilitation for around 100 days, after having surgery.

Maurice Acker was the player who replaced James after he was taken off the court. He said that it’s a big loss for the team, because he is one of the top basketball players and leaders of the Golden Eagles and in such an important time of the season, they need everybody to give their best.

Dominic James is one of the Big East’s top defensive players. He has 1,749 career points and, along side fellow teammates Wesley Matthews and Jerel McNeal, was an integral part of one of the country’s top perimeter units.

The Golden Eagles now have to face No. 6 Louisville, No 1. Pittsburgh and then travel back home, on March 7th, and play against Syracuse to end the season.

NCAA: Number one has a downfall

February 25th, 2009 - by Sports Bookie

With the March Madness just around the corner, you would think that the number one team in the league, the Pittsburgh Panthers, would be your top choice to bet on, but hold those thoughts for a moment. Just when received that coveted spot, they lose against a team that was in such a need to win and still have the chances to play in the post season. Could this be a sign to check your stats and place a different bet in the future?

Chances are that it could be right. Most people have the idea you bet on the best team doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re always going to win. Many NCAA underdog teams have made incredible comebacks and still take the prize home. The perfect example is the Providence Friars. They were extremely close to not have the chance to be in the March Madness and they just won one of the most important games in their season.

The Friars dominated the Panthers with full force. Panther’s Big East player of the week, DeJuan Blair, was giving out fouls like they were presents. The Panthers simply didn’t show why they are number one.

An interesting fact is that it’s Providence’s second time they beat a high ranked team since 1976, when they beat Michigan. So, it just shows that you don’t have to be number one to be the best.

I think that, although they are the best team, you can’t fully place your bet on the Panthers when the Madness begins. Yes, they are very likely to win the tournament, but if they continue to perform the way they did against the Friars, now would be a good time to think things over for a future bet when March comes around.

Tiger Woods Returns to Competition

February 24th, 2009 - by Sports Bookie

People who know and follow golf are aware of the importance of having someone like Tiger Woods active in the professional golfing domain and, tell me, who doesn’t love watching Woods swinging golf clubs in professional tournaments? We all do.

So to know that he’s back after eight months out of the pro game due to an injury is a reason to celebrate for golfers and golf betting fans from all around the globe.

Two hundred and fifty three days was exactly the number of days which the pro golfer had to eliminate from his golfing agenda from 2008. But on day 254, he took one of his clubs and hit his first official competitive golf ball at the Accenture Match Play Championship.

During the 1st round of the competition at Dove Mountain, Tiger faced Australian Brendan Jones on a hot day with temperatures reaching eighty degrees.

The current Match Play champion, winning last year’s competition, had a rough time as he had to play five under par for the last 5 holes just to survive the 1st round.

As of now, he is also the number one seed.

The last time that Tiger Woods played professionally was when he won the US Open back on June 16th of last year where he defeated Rocco Mediate.

The week following that win, Woods went into the hospital where his left knee underwent reconstructive surgery.

This has been the longest period Tiger Woods has spent away from his professional golf career, but having won the Match Play Championship on three previous occasions, Woods has the credibility a golfer of his caliber deserves.

The main thing that everyone is happy about is to see him back in the game.  If he can conquer his fourth Match Play Championship, all the bad arguments surrounding his come back will disappear.

Brock Lesnar: Is he a real champion?

February 20th, 2009 - by Sports Bookie

For long as I can remember, Brock Lesnar has been someone who has made a name for himself. He has been a NCAA wrestling champion, WWE Champion when he was in professional wrestling, he even tried out for the Minnesota Vikings. Now he is the current UFC Heavyweight Champion with a record of just 3 wins and a loss. That is just amazing on paper, but how true can that be? Is he that good? Or is it just all show?

Well, you have to look at Lesnar. This guy is a freaking mastodon!. But not only that; he was fast and agile, which is a skill that most big guys don’t have. Another fact is that he wears custom-made gloves, size 4XL. How much scarier could that be?

Now, in the subject of matches, we haven’t been able to see much of his skills in UFC; still he has managed to obtain UFC’s major title in a very short period of time.

Some might think just because he was in WWE he was given the opportunity to fight for the championship in such short notice, while other contenders wait more time to get the chance to gain the gold.

They might be right or wrong, but look at the matches Lesnar has had. He pounds his opponents like if they were paper. This guy has what it takes to be the UFC Heavyweight Champion. Now, his next match is against Frank Mir, the first guy Lesnar fought with when he started in UFC. Mir defeated Lesnar by submission because Lesnar wasn’t careful enough against Mir’s attacks, but it would have been Lesnar’s match.

We cannot put aside the fact Mir has more experience than Lesnar, no doubt about that. But I don’t think Frank Mir can beat Brock Lesnar again, when UFC 98 comes around in May. This time it’s for the Undisputed UFC Heavyweight Championship. Lesnar goes in as the UFC Heavyweight Champion and Mir goes in as the UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion. My bets are on Brock Lesnar.

Marbury going to Celtics? Good call

February 19th, 2009 - by Sports Bookie

The New York Knicks have released Stephon Marbury from their team, after being more than a year away from the court due to ankle problems he was having. But quickly there were news about the Boston Celtics signing him to their NBA roster. This could be a good time to take this team into great consideration for the next time that you place your NBA bets.

Although Marbury would be a second hand player, he is still capable enough to get the job done. If we look at it from the Celtics perspective, they are already a strong team, strong enough to win the big one. With guys like Kevin Garnett, Eddie House, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce, we are talking big names here. They have Tony Allen too, but he’s out the rest of the season due to a thumb surgery. So, it makes a lot of sense to have an experienced player, like Marbury, on the bench and used when needed.

Plus, Marbury has gotten better at his long-range shooting. Even though he had a bad two-year run with the Knicks, his shooting percentage increased from 35.7 to 37.8. That is around the league average. And he will be the possible replacement for Tony Allen during the playoffs; this could be a boost for the Celtics.

Some might think he will not be able to play as he used to, because he hasn’t played in a year, so they question his skills. But what he played during the preseason showed that he was in good shape. The time he took off to rest has been a lot, but long enough to recover.

So yes, he might be on the bench, but what you have here is a quality player who can fix benchers’ weaknesses. Boston has more to win than to lose. Of course, actions speak louder than words, but facts are facts. It was a good call for the Celtics to get Marbury. It would also be a good call if you check the Celtics betting lines to place your NBA Bets.
