People who know and follow golf are aware of the importance of having someone like Tiger Woods active in the professional golfing domain and, tell me, who doesn’t love watching Woods swinging golf clubs in professional tournaments? We all do.
So to know that he’s back after eight months out of the pro game due to an injury is a reason to celebrate for golfers and golfbetting fans from all around the globe.
Two hundred and fifty three days was exactly the number of days which the pro golfer had to eliminate from his golfing agenda from 2008. But on day 254, he took one of his clubs and hit his first official competitive golf ball at the Accenture Match Play Championship.
During the 1st round of the competition at Dove Mountain, Tiger faced Australian Brendan Jones on a hot day with temperatures reaching eighty degrees.
The current Match Play champion, winning last year’s competition, had a rough time as he had to play five under par for the last 5 holes just to survive the 1st round.
As of now, he is also the number one seed.
The last time that Tiger Woods played professionally was when he won the US Open back on June 16th of last year where he defeated Rocco Mediate.
The week following that win, Woods went into the hospital where his left knee underwent reconstructive surgery.
This has been the longest period Tiger Woods has spent away from his professional golf career, but having won the Match Play Championship on three previous occasions, Woods has the credibility a golfer of his caliber deserves.
The main thing that everyone is happy about is to see him back in the game.If he can conquer his fourth Match Play Championship, all the bad arguments surrounding his come back will disappear.
Many wagering fans were disappointed when Big Brownscrewed up at Belmont Stakes, making them hesitate with special events and stick to the traditional sports betting. But I hope they change their minds now that the 2008 Golf US Open is coming.
For starters, it will be easy to follow the event with Prime Time coverage on ESPN and NBC. According to the US Open TV schedule, the action will be on air this Thursday since 1pm ET, and extending even to 10pm on the first rounds.
But the most important reason for you to stay tuned will be the tight competition at the golf tournament with several stars that assure this will be their year. Phil Mickelson is one of the big contenders, and others could give a huge surprise like Jim Furyk. Don’t underestimate this guy, even though he seems to be a plain dog in the US Open betting lines! His record is actually good enough to expect a good performance.
Of course, those players (and all the rest) will be somehow outshined by the return of top golf player Tiger Woods, who’s been out of the golf course since April, due to a knee surgery. Everybody is over Woods to see how he does at Torrey Pines, and basically waiting for him to be a reason for scandal and news coverage. The U.S. Open is just about to start and they’re already nagging him over nothing! Just a simple comment made by him about Phil Mickelson (where Tiger did nothing but say good things about him) seemed to pull the trigger and have everybody saying his remarks were racist and he wouldn’t have spoken like that if Mickelson were African-American. Seriously! Is it me or Golf people need a life? They really dig too deep and try to find controversy and outrageous scandals on any little, meaningless thing.
Anyway, the forecast looks really interesting for golf betting fans, and the ones that haven’t showed much interest in it, maybe should give it a try. Get ready to tee off!!
Ok, now this is a bad time for all Tiger Woods betting fans who always throw money betting on the absolute favorite. Despite all the action that was to come between the Masters and the US Open, Tiger had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee and will be out of the golf course for at least one month.
This was a huge surprise for everyone. Who could expect Tiger Woods to be out of the game right in the middle of the season? But, above the surprise factor, this has Woods’ fans really concerned. This is not the first time the golf star needs surgery on his left knee. It’s actually the third time, and just the second time in 5 years. How much will this affect his performance? Since it’s not the first time, we will obviously have to wonder.
This means a major problem for those following the regular Tiger Woods golf betting odds. We probably won’t see him until late May, which means he’ll be missing the Wachovia Championship. What a bad way to lose a title.
But now this forces us to think about the second favorite and guess the new betting odds. Who will be the next one for the chalk eaters while Tiger Woods is out?
Thursday will be the day many golf betting fans were expecting. The first major tournament of the year is taking place: the U.S. Masters.
As usual, Tiger Woods is the absolute favorite with about 11/10 in the betting odds. He has a current record of 9 wins in 11 events, numbers that will be hard for any other to match. However, we bump into Fred Couples, who despite his age has made Top 10 twice, which is actually impressive. Besides, this guy does good at Augusta.
Another contender that is drawing everyone’s attention is Argentinian star Andres Romero. This guy was an unknown rookie until US Open. His performance earned him a spot right next to the big names. It’s highly unlikely that he’ll win this one (considering the mere existence of Tiger Woods and the fact that no debutant has won a US Masters for 29 years), but we can’t underestimate this boy, who could bring us a flawless performance.
So, choose your favorites, make your picks. The Golf world is awake now and golf betting is red hot now!
Some guys are just true Golf fans. People that was born for that. But if you are like me, someone who likes to watch it sometimes and would like to play but looking for a good Golf course is just too much of a hassle, you’d probably want to find an option for having some golf fun… at home, or something. The funny thing is that they released a kick-ass online game that could get us all that!
It seems to be a real hit among office workaholics that finally got something else to do with their lives. I know, it’s not really something new because golf games are already out there. However, it seems this one is getting so much attention it’s becoming addictive.
This is some kind of real tournament, with great graphics and the possibility to play with your friends and all that.
And for those who still want to keep track of the REAL Golf world, remember the LPGA tour is starting 2008 right now, with the 2008 Women’s World Cup of Golf in South Africa. It will last until January 20th.
How different is to watch NFL games than other sports like, lets say, golf. All of us Football betting fans are used to the never ending controversy and one scandal after another. NFL players live from a very popular sport and shocking news and events aren’t so shocking anymore.
But when it comes to Golf, it’s a completely different story. Of course a good golf tournament can be really interesting and watching Tiger Woods play is great. But we have to say that, if NFL is like an angry sea storm, the Golf world rests peacefully like a serene lake. That’s why they make such a fuzz out of any stupid thing that happens. And that’s exactly what’s been going on now that Kelly Tilghman was suspended from the Golf Channel.
There was a huge scandal about a comment made by Tilghman, a Golf Channel’s anchor, during one of her broadcasts where she suggested (joking, obviously) as a way for young players to top Tiger Woods that they lynched him in a back alley. In the NFL, it wouldn’t have been a real offense unless she spits him on the face or something. Yes, we know the comment was a little bid acid and all but, should that really cost her a suspension? Come on, we’ve seen and heard way worse. It’s funny how people laugh their asses out if some stand-up comediant, actor or even other anchors say something cruel about the President or Britney Spears, but Tiger Woods has become such an idol that they actually penalize any jokes that include him.
Apparently the comment was just too insensitive and offensive for the Network. So, they’re not going to fire her, but Kelly Tilghman got suspended for 2 weeks. That just confirms Golfers have no sense of humor. (It’s a JOKE!). To be honest, I don’t think Tiger Woods himself could actually feel so upset about it. The freaking joke was actually saying that he was so damn good that beating him up would be the only way to stop him. But oh, well. The Golf world is so quiet that any little thing that is not so proper and high-class done is going to be seriously punished. Good luck to Tilghman, but I would suggest she could start looking for a job as a Football anchor (or even Boxing). Source: USA Today Blogs
