Who are the no.1 seeds?

March 17th, 2009 - by Sports Bookie

Now that the bracket is full, this is the time where the NCAA March Madness really begins. We just saw how far some of the teams have gone to be in the bracket, but how further they can get? Which team are you willing to place your NCAA bets for?

The Pittsburgh Panthers are the team to talk about. You won’t find a tougher trio than seniors Levance Fields and Sam Young and sophomore big man DeJuan Blair in the entire country.

The Panthers held the top spot in the rankings for the first time in school history this year, on two separate occasions, and also swept UConn in the season series. Pittsburgh finished 28-4 and had one of the most impressive true road wins of any team in the country when they went to Tallahassee and knocked off Florida State. They are extremely likely to win, so keep your eye on them.

The Connecticut Huskies are another top contender. They have slowly grown into a team capable of winning the national title. With players such as A.J. Price, Jerome Dyson and Thabeet on their side, they cover every angle possible against any team. They might have lost two games against Pittsburgh, but that hasn’t stopped them from playing great basketball.

The North Carolina Tar Heels finished the season 27-3, which included an absolutely thrashing of Big Ten champion Michigan State at the site of the Final Four, Detroit’s Ford Field, the sweep of Duke and a 13-3 league mark that earned the Tar Heels the ACC regular season crown.

So, there you have some advice of which teams can cut the strings of the basket this year. Be aware of every movement and activity that occurs during the March Madness, you can come out a winner if place your NCAA bets the right way.

Marquette star out for rest of the NCAA season

February 26th, 2009 - by Sports Bookie

Marquette Golden Eagles senior starting point guard, Dominic James, will have to sit out for the rest of the season, due to a fractured bone in his left foot. James broke it while playing against Connecticut, the No. 2 team of the league, in which they lost 93-82.

The NCAA injury announcement was made by the team’s coach, Buzz Williams, and the school after the game had finished. They mentioned that James broke the fifth metatarsal in his left foot after only playing four minutes of the first half. Also, Williams said that James will have to stay in rehabilitation for around 100 days, after having surgery.

Maurice Acker was the player who replaced James after he was taken off the court. He said that it’s a big loss for the team, because he is one of the top basketball players and leaders of the Golden Eagles and in such an important time of the season, they need everybody to give their best.

Dominic James is one of the Big East’s top defensive players. He has 1,749 career points and, along side fellow teammates Wesley Matthews and Jerel McNeal, was an integral part of one of the country’s top perimeter units.

The Golden Eagles now have to face No. 6 Louisville, No 1. Pittsburgh and then travel back home, on March 7th, and play against Syracuse to end the season.

NCAA: Number one has a downfall

February 25th, 2009 - by Sports Bookie

With the March Madness just around the corner, you would think that the number one team in the league, the Pittsburgh Panthers, would be your top choice to bet on, but hold those thoughts for a moment. Just when received that coveted spot, they lose against a team that was in such a need to win and still have the chances to play in the post season. Could this be a sign to check your stats and place a different bet in the future?

Chances are that it could be right. Most people have the idea you bet on the best team doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re always going to win. Many NCAA underdog teams have made incredible comebacks and still take the prize home. The perfect example is the Providence Friars. They were extremely close to not have the chance to be in the March Madness and they just won one of the most important games in their season.

The Friars dominated the Panthers with full force. Panther’s Big East player of the week, DeJuan Blair, was giving out fouls like they were presents. The Panthers simply didn’t show why they are number one.

An interesting fact is that it’s Providence’s second time they beat a high ranked team since 1976, when they beat Michigan. So, it just shows that you don’t have to be number one to be the best.

I think that, although they are the best team, you can’t fully place your bet on the Panthers when the Madness begins. Yes, they are very likely to win the tournament, but if they continue to perform the way they did against the Friars, now would be a good time to think things over for a future bet when March comes around.

Choosing a Favorite for March Madness

February 11th, 2009 - by Sports Bookie

When this time of the year comes, there are so much sports handicapping advice that in the end you don’t even know what to listen, and what to choose. People start looking at the March Madness Brackets and trying to figure out what the best option is, following the media and sports experts. But how do you really choose your favorite for March Madness betting?

There will be a lot of sources to get good picks, but taking only the really valuable information and complementing it with your own judgment.

The AP Poll usually works as a guide for most people to find the best College Basketball teams and place their NCAA bets.  The problem is, just exactly because everybody is doing the same thing, the values will go down. Betting on the usual favorites (such as UCLA) won’t give you so much profit in case they win the championship.

If you want to have a good betting pick, you will have to be patient and not just rush into betting on the most popular team. Take a good look at the March Madness underdogs, since some of them could actually have potential to win and give you good profit. Try to follow the teams’ journey through the season, see which of those have a chance of defeating the “big ones” and try to think as an oddsmaker – which will be the most profitable money lines? Maybe that will be the best way to go.

You still have at least a week to make your mind and pick the best March Madness betting teams. Do it wisely so you can actually be part of the madness, not a victim of it.
