Some still can’t believe what happened on Wednesday night at Citizens Bank Park. After more than a decade of passing by every MLB season without any glory, the Philadelphia Phillies finally got their World Series Championship Title when they defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 4-3.
The victory was obtained in unusual conditions, considering that when they entered the baseball field on Wednesday, they had half of the baseball game already played. However, they were on a tie by that time, so it was still exciting and nothing was said and done yet. It was like watching the season finale of your favorite TV show.
The Phillies took the lead during the seventh inning and the game was defined at that moment. Cole Hamels, star pitcher fromPhiladelphiaalso became the World Series MVP. Well deserved!
Now all those who remained as Phillies fans (or “Phillies Phans”) during all these years when they were at the bottom of the standings are getting what they’ve been dreaming of, and will have a huge celebration for their second title in the almost 100 years of existence.
The Phillies Parade will be on Friday down Broad Street to the Citizens Bank Park. If you’re one of the die-hard fans, I know you won’t miss it! Go, Phillies!
Just one game away from a possible World Series Championship and the game that had to define it all was suspended.
The Philadelphia Phillies were playing one of the most important games of the last… 10? No, 28 years! The only World Series title the Phillies got was in 1980. And now they’re just one step away from having the 2008 World Series Champions title. The global score is 3-1 against the Tampa Bay Rays and the world series game 5 was about to define if we had a MLB Champion already or not. The excitement in Philly was impossible to describe.
And then everything happens just like in a movie: Both teams tied by the sixth inning and then the game has to be suspended, due to heavy rain. This is MLB history! A World Series game 5 suspended with a big cliffhanger and lots of expectation.
The game is supposed to resume tonight. Those who missed the outstanding 5 ½ innings of this game can watch them on FOX right before the rest of the World Series… final? We’ll see.
The MLB World Series is finally here, and the first game was full of action, as the Phillies took the advantage and beat the Tampa Bay Rays 3-2.
The opener on Wednesday night was in Florida, where the Phillies did better than everyone expected. It was a very tight game, which was led to Philadelphia’s victory by figures like Chase Utley (who hit a two-run homer) and Cole Hamels. The Rays started the game with a fierce play, but then stopped the hits after the fifth inning and stayed with just 5.
This wasn’t a good night for Scott Kazmir either, who gave up six hits and had a hard time trying to keep his performance up. Kazmir admitted he felt like he was battling every inning. But still, he’s one of the Rays’ best assets. He just needs to get a grip and start working for real.
The Phillies will try again Thursday night to prove it wasn’t just luck and will try to get their second victory on the road. It won’t be easy: we’re talking about facing an MLB team that has won 18 of the last 22 titles. They definitely started with the right foot! But the home field advantage is still on the Rays’ side, so nothing is said and done yet.
Even though I’ve been a little away from this MLB Season, I definitely have to talk about it today. What happened Thursday night during this MLB Playoffs game is just unbelievable. The Red Sox won the game with an8-7 score.
Well, it doesn’t sound like an amazing thing if you put it like that. But all those MLB betting fans that were watching the game, know how incredible it was to see the Sox winning the game after they were down 7-0, a huge advantage for the Tampa Bay Rays on the scores.
Things looked pretty bad for the Boston Red Sox by the sixth inning. Then Scott Kazmir left the game, and everything changed. By the eighth inning Boston had tied the MLB score and everyone was in shock. All this to finish with the glory of a victory on the ninth inning. Sounds like one of those Disney movies, but that’s how it happened!
Despite of the amazing Boston Red Sox comeback of that game, the Rays are still on top of this series with a 3-2 overall score. Now the series is moving to Florida. But the Sox are still alive! Are they going to give us some more surprises on these ALCS games?
MLB games haven’t been hightlighted news lately. The bad part is that the Boston Red Sox and the Tampa Bay Rays maybe managed to get more attention than the NBA Finals today… but it was because of an awful fight.
Thursday night had more than baseball action on Fenway Park, when it suddenly turned into something that seemed an unexpected boxing match. During the second inning, we could watch Rays pitcher James Shields throw a low ball that hit Boston’s Coco Crisp on the hip. This seemed to be enough for Coco Crisp to drop the bat and run to beat the hell out of Shields. Crisp had to dodge a punch from James Shields and then everyone jumped in, some to try to stop it and others to throw a few punches themselves.
Here’s the video of the violent “boxball” incident.
The tension remained obvious, floating all over the place, and that became clear at the end of the fourth inning, when Manny Ramirez and Kevin Youkilis had a fight of their own. This one seemed to be less violent, but it still was unpleasant to everyone watching the game.
Apparently this comes from the previous Red Sox-Rays game, where some “fouls” seemed to be on purpose and that lead to people upset, talking about the others. Really, is this a way to get some attention from the media? Are the MLB guys so sick of being outshined by Kevin Garnett and Kobe Bryant these days that they have to beat each other to be more interesting?
These definitely aren’t the best days for baseball betting players and fans.
Roger Clemens, Paul Pierce. The last few days have brought more controversy than exciting action in the Sports World. Famous names are flashing all over the place, but just because of bad scandals.
Former baseball star Roger Clemens is on the news headlines again. Besides his bad reputation for the possible use of steroids, he seems to have something else to worry about: it was recently discovered that he had a decade-long affair with country singer Mindy McCready, which started when she was just 15. Not exactly what you want to hear about your baseball field idols. What happened to all the good sports-related stuff he should be remembered for? Sports people have always been surrounded by scandals, but it’s really sad when you realize that those dumb actions can actually outshine the golden Yankee years.
Stepping into a much more active zone, the 2007-2008 NBA Playoffs are giving a lot to talk about… and again it doesn’t have much to do with basketball. A part of the Celtics divine-dunk trinity seems to be also in the polemics club: Paul Pierce was fined with $25,000 for making an offensive gesture to Atlanta Hawks’ Al Horford after he taunted him. Many have associated the “B” sign made by Pierce with gangs and some kind of threat. Other have jumped immediately to say it’s not gang-related and it’s something Paul Pierce does all the time. Funny thing is, the video that showed the moment is not available anymore. In the end, how come people are talking about the Celtics and Paul Pierce but not for the outstanding performance they should be showing?
There’s a lot going on for the true sports betting fan. However, it seems players are busy doing controversial stuff instead of focusing on what really matters and what let them into the spotlight in the first place: their game.
Yesterday we were just talking about the famous Sidd Finch and his outstanding pitching skills as he was supposedly being hired by the Mets. Well, now the Mets could use that guy (too bad he doesn’t exist) to make it up now that pitcherPedro Martinez is injured.
Let’s be honest: this just sucks. At least for New York. Martinez got injured on his MLBSeason’s debut against the Florida Marlins. He just reached the fourth inning and that was it! His left hamstring left him out of the game. Now he is waiting for the MRI exam to determine how bad it was and how much this could keep him off the games.
This was just one of the few times when Pedro Martinez has started since his surgery on 2006. If they play it right, maybe it doesn’t affect the team that much. But this definitely call the other MLB teams to spot the Mets’ weaknesses and take advantage. We’ll see how many of them make it.
For this April Fool’s Day, I was thinking of creating a fake shocking story and wait for the reactions. But that’s what everbody does. So, instead of trying to play joker, I’m talking about other people’s hoax.
Sure, today you were probably amazed by Google’s plan to gather a few people and travel to Mars, YouTube featured videos or even with the Legend of Zelda movietrailer. But good old sports fans (especially baseball betting fans) will never forget the best April Fool’s Day sports hoax ever: Sidd Finch.
The Sidd Finch hoax was so damn cool and clever that it’s listed as #2 in the Museum of Hoaxes’ Top 100 April Fool’s Day hoaxes of all time. Sports Illustrated published SiddFinch’s story on the April issue in 1985. Sidd (from Siddharta) was supposed to be a rookie training to play with the New York Mets, a yoga freak who could throw a ball at 168mph. His story was really weird: he was a Harvard dropout who went to Tibet and learned from the great Lama Milaraspa the techniques that allowed him to throw at that speed. He was an amazing potential pitcher for the Mets, even when he hadn’t even played baseball in his life.
Lots of people were taken in, and even called to know more information about the rookie. Baseball bettors were probably saving all their money to put it on the new star! So be careful with this month’s issue of any magazine. TV hoaxes at least are just for 1 day, but monthly editions can be tricky.
In the meantime, just play it cool at BookPerHead where all bookies sign up and receive 1 year totally free!!! ….
… Ok, ok, I just had to try the hoax thing. But you do get a free week when you sign up, that’s for real!….
The baseballOpening Series Japan 2008 finally came for the defending World Series Champions, Boston Red Sox and their sleepy fans. Who had the brilliant idea of booking the Season Opening at 6 in the morning? Oh, right, it’s human time in Japan.
Anyway, I dont’ think anyone will complain. If you’re one of those die-hard Boston fans, you know you don’t mind waking up so early and having to watch (or listen to) the game with a cup of coffee instead of the usual beer. In the end it was worth it, just to watch the Champions beating the Oakland Athletics 6-5. It wasn’t a breath-taking game, but still was a good start for the Red Sox.
Once the Japan stage is over, the Red Sox action will move to L.A. at Dodger Stadium on Friday, and then at L.A. Memorial Coliseum on Saturday. Those late night games will put the balance on these couple of japanese mornings.
So, we’re back in the game. Now there won’t be an excuse to miss some good sports betting action!
The Roger Clemens scandal is not over. Baseball betting fans will have to wait more to see this problem solved, since it turns more and more complicated every day. Feds seem to be digging even more on this case.
Apparently a former employee of a Fitness center is being interviewed by the Feds to see if Clemens actually got performing enhancing drugs in Houston. His testimony is being questioned since he stated he’d never used steroids or other similar drugs. His former trainer said he injected Clemens several times with these substances. So, who’s right? That’s what they want to find out.
The investigation now is focused in whether Shaun Kelley Weight Control had some kind of connection with Roger Clemens in that sense. If they prove Clemens said any lies on the testimony he gave, he’s screwed. Since when baseball became such a dangerous game? Really, I don’t even get why he would be taking steroids in the first place.
The truth is, fans should’t hold their breath because the former Yankees star seems to be really deep in this mud.
