Some still can’t believe what happened on Wednesday night at Citizens Bank Park. After more than a decade of passing by every MLB season without any glory, the Philadelphia Phillies finally got their World Series Championship Title when they defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 4-3.
The victory was obtained in unusual conditions, considering that when they entered the baseball field on Wednesday, they had half of the baseball game already played. However, they were on a tie by that time, so it was still exciting and nothing was said and done yet. It was like watching the season finale of your favorite TV show.
The Phillies took the lead during the seventh inning and the game was defined at that moment. Cole Hamels, star pitcher fromPhiladelphiaalso became the World Series MVP. Well deserved!
Now all those who remained as Phillies fans (or “Phillies Phans”) during all these years when they were at the bottom of the standings are getting what they’ve been dreaming of, and will have a huge celebration for their second title in the almost 100 years of existence.
The Phillies Parade will be on Friday down Broad Street to the Citizens Bank Park. If you’re one of the die-hard fans, I know you won’t miss it! Go, Phillies!
Just one game away from a possible World Series Championship and the game that had to define it all was suspended.
The Philadelphia Phillies were playing one of the most important games of the last… 10? No, 28 years! The only World Series title the Phillies got was in 1980. And now they’re just one step away from having the 2008 World Series Champions title. The global score is 3-1 against the Tampa Bay Rays and the world series game 5 was about to define if we had a MLB Champion already or not. The excitement in Philly was impossible to describe.
And then everything happens just like in a movie: Both teams tied by the sixth inning and then the game has to be suspended, due to heavy rain. This is MLB history! A World Series game 5 suspended with a big cliffhanger and lots of expectation.
The game is supposed to resume tonight. Those who missed the outstanding 5 ½ innings of this game can watch them on FOX right before the rest of the World Series… final? We’ll see.
The MLB World Series is finally here, and the first game was full of action, as the Phillies took the advantage and beat the Tampa Bay Rays 3-2.
The opener on Wednesday night was in Florida, where the Phillies did better than everyone expected. It was a very tight game, which was led to Philadelphia’s victory by figures like Chase Utley (who hit a two-run homer) and Cole Hamels. The Rays started the game with a fierce play, but then stopped the hits after the fifth inning and stayed with just 5.
This wasn’t a good night for Scott Kazmir either, who gave up six hits and had a hard time trying to keep his performance up. Kazmir admitted he felt like he was battling every inning. But still, he’s one of the Rays’ best assets. He just needs to get a grip and start working for real.
The Phillies will try again Thursday night to prove it wasn’t just luck and will try to get their second victory on the road. It won’t be easy: we’re talking about facing an MLB team that has won 18 of the last 22 titles. They definitely started with the right foot! But the home field advantage is still on the Rays’ side, so nothing is said and done yet.
David Beckham won’t be wasting any time during the MLS offseason, as he will be moved to the Italian soccer club AC Milan in January, as a loan from his current club, the L.A. Galaxy.
The former Man U star is moving to keep playing competitive football and try to stay in good shape so he’s eligible for the national team for different friendly games and qualifiers. How good will this decision be? For the Galaxy… and of course, for the AC Milan.
Is this a marketing stunt? For the Milan it definitely is. This will be a great way to draw more money to their team. They haven’t been on their best moment (financially speaking). And who says “soccer” around the world in a more popular way than David Beckham.Maybe not the best player, but the most famous, no doubt about that. Beckham was a great merchandising source for Manchester United, he put the L.A. Galaxy on the spotlight, and now he’s going to get the world’s attention from Italy. Let’s be honest! It’s not like the AC Milan really needs Beckham as a part of the squad, does it?
The good part for LA Galaxy soccer betting fans is that this hard work with top-class figures will help Becks get fitter and improve his skills. Some of the best qualities Beckham used to have were fading with the years, and others might just be a little rusty after all this time playing with a low-profile soccer league like the MLS (there’s no comparison for us with European soccer yet!)
David Beckham will be back with the Galaxy by April 2009, when the MLS Season starts again. Let’s hope he gets back as the star everyone claims him to be.
Brett Favre has always been a topic for conversation with his (lately) on-and-off pro football career and all his hello-goodbye dramas in the NFL. Now that it’s over, he’s still the one football betting fans talk about, but this time for a possible unethical behavior.
FoxSports reported on Sunday that former Green Bay Packers player and now New York Jets QB Favre called the Detroit Lions before the Packers-Lions game on NFL week 2, and gave them details about the Packers’ strategy. Green Bay won the game anyway, but the rumors are still concerning. Brett Favre has denied those rumors with a text message before his past New York Jets game, but the Lions preferred to stay with the “no comments” old line to avoid admitting inconvenient facts.
Since there’s no proof yet, there’s not much to be said about this NFL scandal. However, reactions have come on the Green Bay Packers’ side. While the Packers head coach said it would be really disappointing, others said that action is not to be respected at all. That one thing is if the Lions contacted Favre to get information. But since he was the one to seek out the Lions, that was a low move (honestly, I find it just as bad both ways).
NFL representatives say there’s nothing on the rules that can actually penalize doing something like what Brett Favre allegedly did, but this is obviously a very unethical action we’re talking about. The National Football League may not punish him, but if those rumors are true, NFL betting fans definitely will. Especially those Packers fans that always looked up to Favre as their idol.
Did Brett Favre have that much of a bad relationship with his former team to do something like that? Well, if he wanted to lose all bonds with Green Bay, he just did it perfectly. Next time he thinks about retiring, he’d better do it for good because there won’t be any chances back there, and probably not anywhere else.
Even though I’ve been a little away from this MLB Season, I definitely have to talk about it today. What happened Thursday night during this MLB Playoffs game is just unbelievable. The Red Sox won the game with an8-7 score.
Well, it doesn’t sound like an amazing thing if you put it like that. But all those MLB betting fans that were watching the game, know how incredible it was to see the Sox winning the game after they were down 7-0, a huge advantage for the Tampa Bay Rays on the scores.
Things looked pretty bad for the Boston Red Sox by the sixth inning. Then Scott Kazmir left the game, and everything changed. By the eighth inning Boston had tied the MLB score and everyone was in shock. All this to finish with the glory of a victory on the ninth inning. Sounds like one of those Disney movies, but that’s how it happened!
Despite of the amazing Boston Red Sox comeback of that game, the Rays are still on top of this series with a 3-2 overall score. Now the series is moving to Florida. But the Sox are still alive! Are they going to give us some more surprises on these ALCS games?
I’m still trying to get myself out of the Giant shock of this past Monday Night Football game. What happened to the Giants?! New York just ruined their perfect NFL scores.
After a great start that made everybody clear why they are the NFL defending Champions, the New York Giants broke their undefeated status on Monday Night when they lost their first game… to the Cleveland Browns. Seriously!!!!
I just can’t understand how a 4-0 (now 4-1) team could lose their winning streak to a 1-3 (now 2-3) like the Browns. Not only that, but with the huge difference in the score. 14-35. Something I would’ve never though I would see, especially with the low performance the Cleveland Browns have had. Almost humiliating for the NFLChampions.
So how did this happen? Well, it seems Cleveland QBDerek Anderson just realized how bad his situation was and basically saved his ass from being kicked out. He completely outplayed Giants star QB Eli Manning and threw a few touchdown passes. He, Braylon Edwards and Eric Wright did most of the work to get this first meaningful victory to the Browns (the win over the Bengals was too damn easy, just like beating the LinehanRams).
After last Monday, the only football team left with some hope to go for a flawless NFL Season would be the Tennessee Titans (5-0). Who knows? Maybe they will actually surprise us, all of us who were too busy looking at the NFL Football Champions instead of their –so far- clean work (but you gotta admit, many of you must be as surprised as I was with the Giants’ neat Season start). Too bad for the Giants! But they still rule their Division.
The Clemson Tigers are really fast! The College Football omen turned into reality way sooner than we thought and Clemson coach Tommy Bowden was fired. Bye bye, Bowden!
Since the news is still hot and full details have not been released, the shock in all College football betting fans is huge. How could they just throw him out with the football season still running? We all expected this to happen, of course, but pretty much at the end of the year.
What happens from now on? It seems assistant head coach Dabo Swinney will be taking over Bowden’s –now- former job, while they find a new official head coach for the team. A very smart move, according to some. And I think that too! There’s no way the Clemson Tigers could suck more than they currently do. So it’s time to find a decent football coach (and hopefully an experienced one) with the skills to change the numbers and make them the most successful team of their Conference again.
Let’s just hope this doesn’t affect Clemson with any kinds of disorganization. Sure, it’s not like they’re on top or anything, but this sudden change has to be compensated with hard work in order to start climbing positions again. In the meantime, I’m already organizing a BBQ at my place for the next Tigers college football game. Who wouldn’t want to watch the first Bowden-less game?
Those College Football betting fans following the latest events are already complaining about the poor role played by the Clemson Tigers on Thursday night. All the awful defeats suffered by the team were followed by a 12-7 loss against WakeForest.
The disappointment is obvious since Clemson has been one of the best football teams in the ACC. Or, at least one of the decent ones that usually make the ACC look a little better. And all the heads have turned to coach TommyBowden.
This seems to be the end for Tommy Bowden at Clemson, since many are looking to take him down. Is he really responsible for the past failures? Well, he took the team at one of its best points and seems to be slowly turning it into one more mediocre squad of that Conference. Seriously, how do you think a loss like Thursday’s looks in national television, after being ranked #9?
Anyway, if Bowden is fired, it’s almost for sure it won’t happen until the end of this football Season. So we will have him as the Tigers’ coach for at least six more games. Should he be taken out of the position? If Clemson follows the NFL trend, sure he will be.
No, Pacman Jones didn’t switch to the MLB. He’s just wasting his chances of keeping his NFL Football career alive.
When the Dallas Cowboys cornerback returned from his long suspension (1 year and a half) he was clearly warned that getting into any more trouble could leave him out of the NFL for good. Adam “Pacman” Jones was back, but just a few weeks into the NFL Season, he seems to be at “strike 3”.
The last incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday night, when he got into a fight with his own bodyguard at a Dallas hotel. He left the scene before the police arrived, with some broken mirrors and a bar tab unpaid.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell declared to the press that as far as he knew, Jones had behaved himself lately. There wasn’t an official position from the NFL about the incident because they didn’t have all the details yet.
Could this be the end of Pacman Jones’ career? It seems current pro football players are remembered for their scandals and violence instead of their skills. Well, maybe someone else would like to fill that position with a better performance and a better attitude, don’t you think?
