Vogue Magazine finally unveiled LeBron’s cover

March 26th, 2008 - by Sports Bookie

The controversial April Vogue Magazine Issue is finally out, with the cover that has everyone talking. Just like it was announced: our King James standing right next to top model Gisele Bündchen.

As said before, they made the Cover of Vogue because this was an issue dedicated to shape and “perfect fit”. The funny thing is that many people seem to be upset, but for different reasons. The cover, as you can see, shows an angry king-kong like LeBron holding the poor lady in danger, Gisele. It seems it looks too racist because of the angry, dangerous black man stereotype. And if you take a close look at it, you’ll probably see that too:

However, what really upsets me is the fact that King James apperars on the cover of a Fashion magazine and not even for his great performance as one of the best players in the NBA right now. He looks like he’s there selling tips to lose weight or something like that. With Gisele on the side, it looks like “this is the couple everybody should be trying to be”.

I prefer to see LeBron on his natural habitat, actually using his basketball for something good and getting “woes” from the crowd for his non-stop scoring and his amazing skills. Now that’s some inspiration! He inspires me to place my bets based on his brilliant play.

For Red Sox action remember to set your alarm clock

March 25th, 2008 - by Sports Bookie

The baseball Opening Series Japan 2008 finally came for the defending World Series Champions, Boston Red Sox and their sleepy fans. Who had the brilliant idea of booking the Season Opening at 6 in the morning? Oh, right, it’s human time in Japan.

Anyway, I dont’ think anyone will complain. If you’re one of those die-hard Boston fans, you know you don’t mind waking up so early and having to watch (or listen to) the game with a cup of coffee instead of the usual beer. In the end it was worth it, just to watch the Champions beating the Oakland Athletics 6-5. It wasn’t a breath-taking game, but still was a good start for the Red Sox.

Once the Japan stage is over, the Red Sox action will move to L.A. at Dodger Stadium on Friday, and then at L.A. Memorial Coliseum on Saturday. Those late night games will put the balance on these couple of japanese mornings.

So, we’re back in the game. Now there won’t be an excuse to miss some good sports betting action!

Sixth Consecutive Victory for sloppy Suns

March 20th, 2008 - by Sports Bookie

While some NBA teams had their winning streak cut off, some others are building one of their own with great results. That’s the case for the Phoenix Suns, after their impressive victory over the Seattle SuperSonics gave them his 6th game won in a row.

The hightlight of the game was Amare Stoudemire, scoring 26 points and placing himself as a leader. The final result was 110-98, good enough for Phoenix, which is builidng its second longest streak in 2007-08 Season. However, they really need to work on their performance. They seem kinda sloppy lately and a team that moves faster than Seattle could take advantage of that.

Amare Stoudemire really nailed it against the SuperSonics. Photo: NBA.com

Another issue the Suns will be facing is the injury on Raja Bell during the third quarter. At least it was just a sprained right ankle, and not a worse fracture like they thought. However, this means he’ll be out for a while, and this could affect. The guy scored 20 points before having to leave. So, he’s not a player you can afford to lose. At least not if you have a team like the current Phoenix Suns.

This wouldn’t be the best time to put money on Phoenix, but they’re still up and running. If they want to reach the finals… it’s not impossible, but they have a lot of work to do.

Rockets stopped their 22 game run defeated by the Celtics

March 19th, 2008 - by Sports Bookie

Well, it was good while it lasted. The Rockets had been on fire with a winning streak of 22 games. But then came the Celtics and ruined their party. Last night, Boston crushed the Rockets’ hopes with a solid 94-74.

The Second half was crucial to get the Celtics' victory over Houston

The game was pretty exciting, with Houston somehow taking some advantage in the first half, and then the Celtics coming out of nowhere, Kevin Garnett with a total scoring 22 points and another 20 points from Paul Pierce, changing things dramatically. This makes Boston the unquestionable favorites right now for beating the unbeatables. This upcoming offseason looks full of action for the Celtics!!

Still, this doesn’t mean the Rockets’ NBA season is over. No way! Right now the rest of the Conference teams could be a little bit afraid of them. We are talking here about the second longest streak in NBA history. The Houston Rockets were just 11 games away from reaching the 1971-72 L.A. Lakers. They still hold the record with 33 wins in a row.

I’ll dare to say the Rockets and the Celtics are the strongest NBA teams of each Conference. Sure, there’s the Lakers also with 46-21 and teams like the Pistons putting up a good fight. But the Celtics have Garnett, and the Rockets have some strong performance nobody could beat for 22 games. Having these 2 on the NBA Finals would be definitely something worth watching!

But the Rockets will have to stay strong and don’t let the loss push them down for the upcoming matches. Let’s see how this goes tonight against the New Orleans Hornets!!

Funny Holidays with some March Madness and LeBron Fashion

March 14th, 2008 - by Sports Bookie

This is certainly a weird day. If you have a calendar of useless holidays like I do, you’ll notice the Math world is celebrating Pi Day. Yes, Pi like 3.14 and all the rest. Since today is March 14th (3/14), then rejoice, geek world! For the rest of the people that don’t really take Pi that seriously, there’s another funny holiday: The Steak and Blowjob day. Seriously! It seems it’s something like a reward for all the corny Valentine’s stuff we had to go through exactly a month ago to please our girls. So, if you have a special someone to share this Steak and BJ holiday with… go get ready for one night most guys dream of having!

Now, putting all the weird stuff aside, let’s talk about sports. No, wait, that looks weird too. At least if you are checking the latest Basketball news. In College basketball, March Madness has really honored its name since it seems it’s already driving people mad with events like a Mascot Fight! It happened between the schools IUPUI Jaguar and Oral Roberts Eagle (maybe they were fighting over who has the worst name…), with something that in the beginning looked like a common “friendly” rivalry. Next thing we know, they’re punching each other and rolling over the floor. Now that’s what I call getting ready for some March Madness spirit!

Price Per Head software with low cost per head fees

It would be better to turn our heads to pro basketball, but then you realize you can’t go to the games in April without the last Vogue magazine issue because King James will be on the cover. Again, not joking. LeBron James will be the third man in history to appear on the cover of Vogue, after Richard Gere and George Clooney. He’ll be the perfect match for Gisele Bündchen, the other icon that will appear on the magazine. It seems the issue will be about size and shape and those 2 are perfect to represent that. Go figure. Now I’m not just thinking about Tom Brady’s future and performance, now I have to worry about LeBron too. How come they all become celebrities and do what any actor or singer in the need of some self-promotion does now?

These are very, very strange days for the basketball world. Pick your favorite holiday for today, and your favorite wacky basketball moment.

Roger Federer vs Peter Sampras: in the end Roger is the top player

March 13th, 2008 - by Sports Bookie

It seems the Tennis world’s Champion is absolute. Not even a former #1 player and unquestionable star like Peter Sampras can beat almighty Roger Federer. But it was funny how it wasn’t that easy for Roger, even though Sampras has been retired for about 10 years.

During an exhibition match held recently at Madison Square Garden, Peter Sampras and Roger Federer faced each other to measure their skills. The game was quite interesting: Sampras had the advantage with a 5-2, until Federer finally came through to win the match. The last sets were 6-3, 6-7 (4), 7-6 (6).

2 of the best players ever facing each other. Photo: Sidharths.com

It’s very possible that Peter Sampras hasn’t wasted all these years sitting on the couch with a beer and a bag of Doritos, but still, his condition is impressive. Federer has more Grand Slam titles than him, and you would expect the #1 seed in the world to crush the old retired player. But even though Sampras lost, nobody had a doubt of why he used to be the world’s #1. That’s great but this also could be a warning for Federer: maybe he felt too confident or didn’t give his best because it wasn’t a championship match. Let’s hope that, because otherwise it could mean he’ll have to put an extra effort to beat the other top tennis players.

Exhibition games are quite a show for tennis fans. They give them the chance to evaluate their favorite players’ performance without the rush of making bets and with no titles at stake. It’s like having a fine taste of what you’ll see during the year. And what could be more tasteful than two huge tennis players with outstanding skills facing each other?

Tom Brady has a sex tape? Please don’t pull a Paris…

March 12th, 2008 - by Sports Bookie

It seems the NFL Offseason will mean anything but peace to the Patriots’ golden boy Tom Brady. But now they’re not over his back for his performance at the field, but for more personal stuff, like a possible Tom Brady and Gisele sex tape. Yeah, he just reached Paris Hilton’s level. How disturbing.

Of course this is not necessarily related to sports… unless you put this in a weird perspective: Bill Belichick seems to be training his guys well enough on taping stuff! Maybe Tom and Gisele should’ve asked Matt Estrella to help them with that. But actually they were caught by security cameras on a wine cellar at Philippe.

Tom Brady’s unquestionable fame for his outstanding performance as an NFL quarterback seems to be turning him into another target for the useless celebrity press and paparazzi. All these scandals could end up affecting his career. I mean, there are tons of infamous NFL players with ‘controversy’ as last name. But when you’re considered one of the biggest QBs of all time and then you become famous for this kind of scandals, the pressure will be different, and in Brady’s case, it would probably lead him to concentrate on meaningless stuff. Cool, you have a hot supermodel as girlfriend and all that, but above all things you’re a football player. Pro football players don’t waste their time on stupid sex tapes like clueless Paris would do for not having anything else to show. Don’t get me wrong, just the idea of watching a little bit more of Gisele sounds great to me (don’t bother searching through YouTube, it’s not there yet… nor anywhere), but I have to say it would suck if such a good QB like Tom Brady ended up being the next Ana Kournikova: Got the looks, sports celebrity status… wait. Sports? What sports?.

But for now I’m just going to wait until the leak video appears somewhere. I’ll start worring for real when Brady shaves his head and gets locked up in a rehab center.

Roger Clemens keeps waiting for the strike out

March 7th, 2008 - by Sports Bookie

The Roger Clemens scandal is not over. Baseball betting fans will have to wait more to see this problem solved, since it turns more and more complicated every day. Feds seem to be digging even more on this case.

Apparently a former employee of a Fitness center is being interviewed by the Feds to see if Clemens actually got performing enhancing drugs in Houston. His testimony is being questioned since he stated he’d never used steroids or other similar drugs. His former trainer said he injected Clemens several times with these substances. So, who’s right? That’s what they want to find out.

The investigation now is focused in whether Shaun Kelley Weight Control had some kind of connection with Roger Clemens in that sense. If they prove Clemens said any lies on the testimony he gave, he’s screwed. Since when baseball became such a dangerous game? Really, I don’t even get why he would be taking steroids in the first place.

The truth is, fans should’t hold their breath because the former Yankees star seems to be really deep in this mud.

NBA Cavs-Nicks game: if you touch the King you can get arrested

March 6th, 2008 - by Sports Bookie

Believe it or not, one of the most popular friendly gestures on Earth can take you right to jail. That’s what happened on the last Cavs game, when a fan was arrested for giving LeBron James a high-five.

Sure, King James definitely deserved it after scoring 50 points at the Madison Square Garden and being the key figure to crush New York. The game was just seconds away from the end and this euphoric guy raced into the court to give James a high-give and a handshake. He was soon taken away by security.

LeBron said that incident was actually like the most unbelievable thing” that’s ever happened to him, and talked a lot about how much he respected the fan for his nice words and all that. Ok…. but the guy was still arrested like a wacko criminal. I hope that respect flyes straight to the Police Dept.! I mean, why didn’t he say something? He declared he wasn’t even scared at any point when he saw the fan running towards him. So, why did he let security take him out like a dog?

King James is not usually a jerk, and we also know that was a big, big night for LeBron. However, we can’t deny it was a little “uncool”. I mean the fan was like crazy, but wasn’t harmful. It would’ve been nice if he had said something so they could let the poor guy go.

The good thing is, that incident didn’t keep the public from performing a standing ovation at the Garden for his “king”, who had one of the biggest nights in his NBA history.
