All those who thought the betting world was kinda dull without NFL (not even controversial news or T.O. crying anymore, just lovely pictures of Tom Brady in Costa Rica with girlfriend Gisele is what we get from them) are probably not thinking about horse racing. The expectation for this year’s Triple Crown started to warm up at the Nad Al Sheba Racecourse, where 2007 American Horse of the Year and winner of the past Breeder’s Cup, Curlin, became a winner again.
This can be taken as some kind of preparation for what’s coming at Dubai World Cup on March 29th. The world’s eyes are again on last year’s Preakness Stakes winner. This time he’s making history from the very beginning! Maybe we will have another surprise with this year’s Triple Crown Races.

Sure, it is a great “business” to wager on horse racing, no doubt, besides the excitement of something that can leave you with such a rush in just a few minutes. But being the owner of a successful thoroughbred like Curlin is even a greater business: with the Nad Al Sheba victory, he and his owner just won $105,000. If Curlin actually had pockets those would be filled with more than $5 million for his total bankroll. And the numbers could keep going up with the upcoming $6 million Dubai World Cup.
Who said horses are boring? There’s nothing boring of having so much at stake for the runners, and of course some more for the bettors. Stay tune on that, don’t miss the action. Remember, it’s over in a blink and you could end up winning big.

It was one of the most exciting games of this NBA season. Something everyone was expecting to watch. The Lakers-Suns game on Wednesday night gave a lot to talk about, starting for the fact that the Suns were defeated 130-124.
Even though the rivalry between Phoenix and L.A. is well known, what made this game even more interesting was the Bryant - O’Neal face-to-face match everyone was expecting. Shaq finally made his debut with the Suns, against the team he led to 3 NBA Championship titles once.
Last night reminded us all why we thought getting Shaquille O’Neal on a trade was a pretty bad move for Phoenix: if that was their hidden ace, then they’re screwed. Shaq only scored 15 points (9 of them in the final quarter), while Kobe Bryant crushed the former NBA star by scoring 41 points and leading his team to an absolute victory. I mean, what kind of trade is this? How is O’Neal just saying “I’m not playing tonight” with any pathetic excuse or going out there just for a while? Every day it looks more and more like one of the worst choices the Suns could’ve ever made.
In the end, the Lakers took the glory home. Let’s see how the Suns do after this shameful defeat, and if their “new star” finally adapts to the younger players’ style.

So, Monica Seles is officially out of the professional tennis world. To be honest, I thought that’d happened years ago. If you haven’t played in almost 5 years, how can people assume you haven’t dropped out yet? Well, but now it’s for sure and for good. She probably woke up yesterday and it just hit her: She was never going to play tennis again but she didn’t want to face it. Now, at age 34, Monica made the announcement to the public.
Seles was definitely a key figure of tennis for many years, one of the first true female tennis stars in the world. Not many of the current ones can match what Monica Seles did during her career (with girls like Ana Kournikova calling themselves “pro tennis players” you could think a real star should feel insulted! Don’t get me wrong; Kournikova is hot as hell, but she should be modeling tennis gear or something, not making a fool of herself at the court). Not to say that I don’t really think other players have had to put up with so much pressure and weird dangerous stuff. You’re right, I’m talking about one of the most vivid memories we will have of her for the rest of our lives: Monica Seles stabbed by a crazy fan during a match. Damn, if you survive that and keep playing, you deserve some serious respect!

There’s no doubt Monica Seles leaves with a lot of things to be proud of, like almost Grand Slam titles, a ranking of #1 in 1991, 53 total career titles and a bronze medal in the 2000 Sydney Olympics, representing USA. That’s why this is some kind of important loss to the US (she’s Yugoslavian but became US citizen in 1994, for those who didn’t know). But even with those gaps in time when she didn’t play at all, it’s a bigger loss to the tennis world.
There are some promising female tennis players right now. Let’s hope at least one of them keeps the level Monica Seles reached one day.

Today I’m still focusing on sports, but not in a conventional way. This little break we take after the Super Bowl, while you catch up with the rest of the Sports World. Well, I said it once. What’s sports without hot girls? Sports Illustrated knows that too, and that’s why we have a 2008 SI swimsuit calendar full of hotties. And I mean top-class hotties.
The cover was revealed by David Letterman on the Late Show a couple of days ago. So, it’s all over the news that supermodel Marissa Miller is this year’s Sports Illustrated swimsuit cover. Not bad at all, huh?

The “Barely Bikinis” issue shows Miller barely-bikini-covered. So sexy… yet elegant. Even when we usually don’t care about the photographers (that’s obviously the last thing we’re going to look at), I have to say it’s a good job. This is not the first time Miller poses for the Sports Illustrated swimsuit pages, but this is her first cover in the calendar.
Other sexy models that will be showing their best on the calendar are Jessica White, Brooklyn Decker, Anne V and Tori Praver. It seems we’ll have a lot to see this year!
Are you ready to get yours? I definitely will. If I’m going to keep something as useless as a calendar, it’d better have some hot bikini girls to make it worthy.

Ok, now we are through with all the Super Bowl fuzz and we will have to find something else to watch during the NFL off-season. Right, there was some NBA action going on! Remember? So, it will be a great way to take your head’s switch back to Basketball with the surprising news about a possible trade of Shaquille O’Neal to the Phoenix Suns.
I know, that makes no sense. At least not for the Suns! Shaq is, no-doubt, a hall-of-fame figure and a great point in NBA history. But that’s exactly the problem. He’s a part of history… but I don’t think he will be making history anymore. The self-proclaimed “Big Daddy” is already 35 years old, with lots of injuries on the record and a notoriously declining performance. It’s too bad when all the “has-been” get stuck, living out of their past glories. So, let’s face it. Miami Heat is over with Shaq and are planning to get something juicier… like Shawn Marion.

Now, the question is: Why would Phoenix want a decadent star? Will they actually let Marion go to get O’Neal? This is a tough decision, questioned by many. They’d better reconsider that trade if the rumors are true.
But MAYBE, just maybe… it would be better if Shaquille took this chance to leave with all the glory while he still can. Maybe Shaq should take a step back… and say good-bye before his over-extended career makes people change their mind and remember him more like a failure than the super star he used to be.

I would say that nobody saw it coming, but I would be lying. Hundreds of people who took the risk of betting on the dog against a perfect-record NFL team on Super Bowl definitely must’ve seen it coming somehow. Just a few seconds changed the outcome of this huge event. Just a few seconds made Tom Brady walk out of the field with his head down, totally beaten. Those few seconds gave the Giants an amazing victory, running over the ones nobody else could beat.
That’s right, folks! I know you were right there and saw it, and then took your hands to your head just as I did. Because no matter which team you were supporting, I think that was the general reaction. Everybody was ready to celebrate with the Patriots for a perfect Season from game 1 to Super Bowl, something that would’ve been set on the stones of NFL history. But… oh, surprise! 35 secs before the end, Eli Manning, the Giants’ golden boy, was starting to get surrounded by the Pats, but threw a pass to Plaxico Burress, who scored the unexpected TD the Giants needed to become the new NFL Champions. Amazing!
Tom Brady’s face was absolutely priceless, not sure if it was just because of the loss, of because Plaxico was right when he said the Giants would win 23-17. Tom Brady laughed at it… and obviously he couldn’t believe it really happened. He was the biggest sample of the disappointment felt by the New England Patriots. Some others took advantage of that kodak moment to make some jokes:

This was definitely a Giant moment for New York. Honestly, would you have thought when the past NFL Season began that you would see them face-to-face with the Patriots? There’s nothing left to say besides Congratulations, New York Giants. And too bad for New England: you were pretty close to making history… The Dolphins can stop holding their breath because they still have the perfect-season record and we all have to hear them bragging about it until someone else breaks that curse . Maybe next year…

So, this is it. All these NFL months are finally going to reach their peak. We are just hours away from the Super Bowl XLII.
The New England Patriots are the smashing favorites of this game, while the shocking underdogs, New York Giants are giving some rabid football betting fans a lot to talk about. Some think these guys could actually take the victory home, despite what the numbers say in the Patriots’ favor. Will this be some kind of David vs. Goliath thing?
The Patriots became bigger and bigger without nobody noticing that closely. They only count 3 Super Bowl Championships, but they all were between 2001 and 2005. Only the Cowboys had achieved 3 Championships in 4 years. And this has been by far the best NFL Season they’ve ever had. Even though they had a hard time at the begining with the scandal about their video-cheating, they remained undefeated and undeniably strong.
On the other side, the Giants have a couple of Super Bowls won (1986 and 1990) and don’t really seem to be that good. But what they accomplished during the last Playoff games is definitely a reason to think twice about “not that good” part. New York has really gotten far this time and it would be just unbelievable if they defeated this season’s “Giant”. That would completely change their status and the way people perceive this team (it already has changed in some way). I mean, they got the chance to stand face to face with the ones nobody has been able to break yet. Will the do what all teams wanted to do this Season without success?
So, have you got your tickets to the Super Bowl? Too bad if you don’t have any, because there will be a lot to watch even since the pre-game show. But you can’t miss what’s really important: The matchup that could change the History of NFL.
